Q: Are all your spices organic? 

  • A: Yes. All our spices are organic. 

 

Q: What does organic spice mean?  

  • A: Organic spices are spices that are grown and processed without using synthetic chemicals, such as herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Organic spices are cultivated using organic farming practices that focus on biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and soil health. 

 

Q: What does “organic certified” mean? 

  • A: “Organic certified” refers to a product that has been verified by a recognized certification body for meeting specific standards of organic farming and processing. 

 

Q: What is organic farming? 

A: Organic farming refers to an agricultural approach that concentrates on using natural processes and material for cultivating crops and raising livestock. The focus is on producing food in a natural way that is socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and health conscious. 

 

Q: Where are your spices sourced from? 

    • A: We source our spices from the finest farms in India that engage in organic farming and fair-trade practices. 

     

    Q: How are your spices processed? 

      A: Our spices are processed following strict guidelines that maintain the organic status of the produce. They are harvested at their peak ripeness to ensure maximum nutritional content and flavor. Then they are naturally dried or dried using dark shade technique to preserve the color, flavor, and nutritional properties of the spice. Once they are dry, they are sorted and graded depending upon their physical appearance. In the next step, they undergo grinding and milling depending upon which form they are sold before packing them. 

       

      Q: All your spices non-GMO? 

        • A: Yes. Our spices are USDA Organic Certified which strictly prohibits the use of GMO. 

         

        Q: Are your spices non-irradiated? 

          • A: Yes. Our spices are non-irradiated which means they have not been exposed to ionizing radiation. 

           

          Q: What is the meaning of USDA certified? Are your spices USDA certified? 

            • A: "USDA certified" refers to the products that meet the standards set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The key requirements of this certification include organic farming practices. Yes. All our products are USDA certified. 

             

            Q: Are your spices gluten-free? 

              • A: Yes. Our spices are gluten-free. Gluten-free refers to products and foods that do not contain gluten which is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and their derivatives.

               

              Q: What is the best way to store the spices? 

                • A: The most appropriate way to store the spices is in a glass jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. A cupboard or pantry is the ideal place to store spice. Avoid storing them near the over or stove as the steam and heat from the appliances can degrade their quality. 

                 

                Q: Can I store the spices in Spice Profile’s original packing?  

                  • A: Yes, you can store the spices in our original packing. It is an opaque, layered packing with easy re-seal option designed to keep the spices fresh and aromatic. The standing pouch can be easily stored in a cupboard. 

                   

                  Q: Should I store spices in glass or plastic containers? 

                    • A: Storing spices in a glass container is always better than storing them in plastic containers. Glass containers are non-reactive, durable and offer visibility. 

                     

                     

                    Q: How do you prevent spices from clumping? 
                      • A: To prevent spices from clumping, store them in airtight containers and keep them away from moisture. 

                       

                      Q: Can I store spices in refrigerator or freezer? 

                        • A: We do not generally recommend storing spices in freezer or refrigerator because of moisture absorption and condensation. Also, they can absorb flavors and odors from other foods in the refrigerator. 

                         

                        Q: How can I tell if my spice is still good? 

                          • A: Your spice is good if the aroma, color and flavor of your spice are still intact.  If there is loss of color, fragrance, or flavor; it is time to replace it. 

                           

                          Q: Do spices expire? 

                            • A: Spices don't really expire or typically spoil in the same way that perishable foods do. Instead, they can lose their flavor, aroma, and potency over time, making them less effective for seasoning dishes. 

                             

                            Q: What is the shelf life of your spices? 
                              • A: The shelf life of spices depends on the type of spice, how it is processed, and how it is stored. We suggest you refer to the best before date mentioned on the packaging. For best flavors, we recommend using the spices within 12 months of opening the pack. 

                               

                              Q: How to grind or process the spices at home? 

                                • A: The most recommended method to grind spices at home is by using mortar and pestle as it ensures flavor potency and freshness. You can also use a spice grinder to grind spices in no time. Rolling pin is another way to grind spices just by applying pressure. 

                                 

                                Q: Are there any signs that suggest that the spice has past its prime? 

                                  • A: If the spice has lost its flavor, aroma, or color; it is an indication that it is past its prime. You can also check the status of spice by crushing it. If it does not release any aroma, then it is time to replace it. 

                                   

                                  Q: What is the difference between herb and spice? 

                                    • A: Herbs are flavorful leafy part of specific plants. They can be used fresh or dried. On the other hand, spices are aromatic seasonings that are derived from the seeds, barks, roots, fruits, or buds of certain plants. They are used only in dried form. 

                                     

                                    Q: How long will a spice last if you toast it and then store it? 

                                      • A: Toasting a spice reduces the shelf life by a fourth which means that toasted spices generally have a shelf life of around 2-3 months. 

                                       

                                      Q: What is one common mistake most people make when cooking with spice? 

                                        • A: Shaking spices over a hot pan is the most common mistake. This practice results in condensation which affects the texture of the spice and can result into clumping in the jar. We recommend you take the seasoning in your hands and then add to your recipe as you rub your hands together.
