Ingredients:
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
Topping (optional but recommended):
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of ground cloves
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla, then stir in sour cream. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Pour batter into the prepared pan. Mix topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over the batter.Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with coffee or tea.
