Eggnog

Eggnog

This festive recipe is a wonderful thing to make in dessert. 

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup bourbon, rum, or brandy (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.

In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream, and nutmeg. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes). Do not let it boil.

Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon (if using) and vanilla extract. Let the eggnog cool, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
