Ingredients:
- 4 large baking apples (such as Granny Smith)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, diced
- ½ cup apple cider or apple juice
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Core the apples and place them in a baking dish.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, chopped nuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Fill each apple cavity with the sugar-nut mixture. Top each apple with diced butter.
Pour apple cider or apple juice into the bottom of the baking dish. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and caramelized. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
